Play Audio Interview

This New York Times and USA Today bestselling novelist has authored more than 100 romances and never runs out of ideas. In this audio interview about her new book, Sunset Bay,  she discusses the future of women’s fiction, her own career, and how determination is more important than talent.

The common misconception about romance novels is that they weaken women, or that the women in them are spineless and simply waiting for a good man to save them. Most people who complain about romance novels, haven't read one recently. The genre has changed significantly over the past few years. They are much more mainstream and current in their themes and prose. Most romances are about smart, articulate women with authentic lives and strong personalities. While a man would be nice, they are more concerned about getting on with life, solving problems and being happy.

Susan Mallery has just released her latest book SUNSET BAY (Pocket Books, March 2009). In Sunset Bay, her main character Megan Green has it all, a living family, a successful career and wonderful fiancee. Then her life falls apart when she discovers neither her father nor her fiance are the men she thought they were., until her life She is determined to spread the word that romance is what people are reading and if they aren't reading them, they should be. Anyone who watches shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Samantha Who, The Ex-List or Gilmore Girls (which is still running strong in syndication) should be reading romance.

Susan makes her home in the Pacific Northwest where, rumor has it, all that rain helps with creativity. Susan is married to a fabulous hero-like husband and has a six pound toy poodle…who is possibly the cutest dog on the planet.
