(S&S BFYR, July 16, 2024)
“[A] gruesomely funny tale… this action-packed spooky mystery is full of ghoulish characters and offbeat humor, and is ideal for independent young readers.” – BookTrust (UK)
The Monstrous League of Monsters has three rules:
1) Keep monsters hidden from humans,
2) Protect humans from bad monsters,
3) Help bad monsters become good monsters.
But when zombie George and his cat companion Bandit find an abandoned human baby in a spooky cemetery, they can’t just leave her to be eaten by hobgoblins. So, breaking rule #1 in the Monstrous League of Monsters rulebook, they spirit her home where she quickly becomes part of a very unusual monster family.
Author Jordan Kopy talks to Authorlink about the challenges and fun of writing her debut novel.
In the debut novel by a fun, clever new voice in the middle grade universe, THEODORA HENDRIX AND THE MONSTROUS LEAGUE OF MONSTERS by Jordan Kopy (S&S BFYR, July 2024), 10-year-old Theodora Hendrix isn’t scarred by her monstrous upbringing, although she does struggle to make friends at her school, and the villainous headmistress Mrs. Frumple seems out to get her. However, Theodora makes a new friend in Dexter and things are taking a turn for the better. That is, until a series of anonymous letters arrive at the League, suggesting that someone is about to
reveal the secret of Theodora’s monster family home life. If Theodora doesn’t act fast, she may lose her beloved family forever.
THEODORA HENDRIX AND THE MONSTROUS LEAGUE OF MONSTERS is the Addams Family meets Nancy Drew in this delightfully spooky illustrated middle grade series following a precocious young human girl who fiercely loves her monster foster family and will do anything to stay with them. And the best part, the reader can help solve the mystery by joining the Eye Spy Monster Agency!
