East Hampton, Summer, 1967: Thea is twenty and living in a tiny house with her half sister and stepfather. Margot tests the patience of her parents as she strives to make her own life. Thea tries to act as a steadying influence. They plan to drive across country to California that summer, but a shocking event throws their lives into chaos. Margot disappears one day, and Thea is left do deal with what happened and get on with her life. Flashforward to 1977: Thea is now married with a young daughter and living in a nice house overlooking a private cove. One day a yacht drops anchor in the cove. Margot is back after ten years–and in deep trouble. Her husband is wanted by the FBI and they want to question her. The years fall away, their friendship reignites, but it’ll never be the same. How far is Thea willing to go to help her old friend without losing all she holds dear?
All the Summers in Between is a great summer read that examines the nature of friendship, marriage and relationships in general. Thea and Margot are engaging characters with their own flaws and virtues and the hints of disaster to come makes it a real page-turner.
