Market Tip:
Hyperion to Launch
New Women’s
Imprint in April NEW YORK, NY/8/29/2006—In April 2007, Hyperion will launch a new imprint aimed at women in their mid 30’s and older. Named Voice, the imprint was developed by Hyperion publisher Ellen Archer and Pamela G. Dorman, formerly a longtime editor at Viking.

The new Voice will be “anti-chick-lit,” according to Archer and Dorman. The first five titles will include, Life’s a Beach, a novel by Claire Cook, author of Must Love Dogs; The Feminine Mistake, by Leslie Bennetts, a contributing editor at Vanity Fair magazine, and The Empty Nest, an anthology of essays on life after kids are grown, edited by Los Angeles writer Karen Stabiner.

At Viking, Pam Dorman has edited such bestsellers as Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Jim Edwards, and Talking Back by NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell.

A number of publishers have recently begun women’s imprints, including Warner’s new 5 Spot and Springboard Press.
