Texas Book Festival Lists Some Featured Writers

Some of the speakers for this fall’s 2016 Texas Book Festival weekend have been announced.

Actress Diane Guerrero (“Orange is the New Black” and “Jane the Virgin”) will discuss her new memoir, “In the Country We Love: My Family Divided,” the story of her family’s struggle as undocumented immigrants. Memoirist Julissa Arce, a former vice president at Goldman Sachs, also will talk about her experiences as an undocumented immigrant.

Houston-based novelist Justin Cronin will present “The City of Mirrors,” the finale to his bestselling, epic trilogy.

Yaa Gyasi will present her highly acclaimed new novel “Homegoing,” a story that traces several generations of a family from Ghana over 300 years.

Also speaking will be festival founder and former first lady Laura Bush, along with her daughter, “Today Show” correspondent Jenna Bush Hager; Newbery Medalists Lois Lowry, Jacqueline Woodson and Kwame Alexander; National Book Award winners Jacqueline Woodson and Ha Jin; poet Eileen Myles; former NFL football player Trevor Pryce; novelist Maria Semple; Spanish-Argentine writer Andrés Neuman; Texas writer Bill Wittliff; and Texas Monthly’s Skip Hollandsworth.

The free book festival will be Nov. 5-6 in Austin. The full lineup will be announced in September.
