Publisher Orders
2 Million Additional
Copies of The Secret

NEW YORK/NY/3/1/07–In order to keep up with extraordinary consumer demand, Atria Books/Beyond Words, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc, announced today that it has ordered an additional 2,000,000 copies of THE SECRET by Rhonda Byrne, the book that has quickly become one of the most talked about topics in the nation. The 2,000,000 copy order, which will be delivered in stages over the coming weeks, is the largest ever in the history of Simon & Schuster, and brings the total number of copies in print to an astounding 3.75 million.

THE SECRET was released in late November and instantly enjoyed steady and swift sales with booksellers across the country, primarily as a result of word of mouth and the immense popularity of the DVD, which was released early in 2006. The phenomenon of THE SECRET exploded in early February when Oprah Winfrey devoted two consecutive shows extolling the virtues and the philosophy behind THE SECRET.

Since then, THE SECRET has been written about in numerous publications including The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Sun-Times, and has graced the cover of USA Today, Newsweek, and the New York Times Sunday Style section. It has also appeared at the top of ten different national bestseller lists, including The New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal. The Simon & Schuster Audio edition has more than 400,000 copies in print, and the book has also been a bestseller in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Foreign rights to THE SECRET have so far been sold to 20 countries.

“It is a testament to the powerful attraction of THE SECRET that it has been selling out faster than we can supply it to our customers,” said Judith Curr, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Atria Books. “While this extraordinary and unprecedented reprint should go a long way toward satisfying demand, we know that in the interim copies may be hard to find, and ask for patience while we are working overtime to re-supply our customers.”

THE SECRET contains wisdom from modern-day teachers-men and women who have used it to achieve health, wealth, and happiness. By applying the knowledge of The Secret, they bring to light compelling stories of eradicating disease, acquiring massive wealth, overcoming obstacles, and achieving what many would regard as impossible.

In 2007, Atria Books will be celebrating its fifth anniversary. In that time, Atria has established itself as one of the most successful imprints in publishing today. With 16 New York Times Bestsellers in 2006, including the #1 New York Times bestseller The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult, The Secret Supper by Javier Sierra, Act of Treason by Vince Flynn and The Guy Not Taken by Jennifer Weiner, Atria Books can now boast over 103 bestsellers in its short history.
