Marjorie Braman

to Head Henry Holt

As Editor-in-Chief

NEW YORK, NY/8/21/08–Marjorie Braman, one of New York’s top editors, is leaving HarperCollins after 12 years to become vice president and editor-in-chief of Henry Holt & Company, effective September 8. At Harper, she had served as vice president and executive editor, where she was well known for producing high-quality commercial books.

Braman will be charged with growing a fiction list for Henry Holt, which has long been known for its nonfiction titles. She will also focus on narrative nonfiction projects. She is known for having worked with such top authors as Elmore Leonard, Michael Crichton, and T. Jefferson Parker.

Braman is among several high-level editorial executives to leave HarperCollins since the May 2008 resignation of CEO Jane Friedman and the naming of her successor Brian Murray, who had headed HC’s Australian operation before his appointment as president of HC’s worldwide business last year. In that role he had been involved in HC’s digital initiatives and international expansion. He has admitted that his "style and expertise" are different from Friedman’s, but said in June that the had no plans for a major directional change in the company.

At Henry Holt, Braman will report to president Dan Farley.
