Jack Romanos
To Retire As CEO
Of Simon & Schuster

New York/9/6/07–Jack Romanos, President and Chief Executive Officer of Simon & Schuster, Inc., announced today that he will retire from that post, effective Dec. 31, 2007. Romanos will continue to serve in an advisory capacity to CBS Corporation President and CEO Leslie Moonves through 2009.

Carolyn K. Reidy, currently President of Simon & Schuster’s Adult Publishing Division, will assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer upon Romanos’ retirement. “For many years Jack has combined the art of publishing and the science of business to lead Simon & Schuster to its indisputable position as one of the world’s greatest and most successful publishing companies,” said Moonves. “Jack would have had a terrific career no matter what business he was in, but Simon & Schuster and the world of publishing has been fortunate to benefit from his savvy management, inspired business instincts and steady guiding hand during an era of great change in their industry. Romanos, who joined Simon & Schuster in 1985 as President of Pocket Books, was named President and CEO in 2002, having previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer since 1998. Prior to that, Romanos had been president of the Simon & Schuster Consumer Group since 1991. He also held positions as President of the Mass Market Division and President of the Trade Group.

Prior to joining Simon & Schuster, Romanos had served as Publisher of Bantam Books since 1981. He began his publishing career in 1966 at Fawcett Publications, and joined Bantam in 1973. During his career, Romanos has published or overseen the publication of some of the most exciting and bestselling titles in modern publishing history, including Iacocca by Lee Iacocca, The Way Things Ought to Be by Rush Limbaugh, John Adams by David McCullough, Living History by Hillary Rodham Clinton, Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt, and The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
