NEW YORK, NY/AUTHORLINK NEWS/April 19, 2011–Jennifer Egan has won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for her unusual novel about the passage of time, “A Visit from the Goon Squad.” Winners were announced Monday. Honored for Egan, 48, has been praised for her searching and unconventional narratives about modern angst and identity. Goon Squad was honored for its “big-hearted curiosity about cultural change at warp speed.” Other Egan novels include The Invisible Circus, Look at Me and The Keep.

A Visit From the Goon Squad portrays the demise of the music industry in the digital age. The book also earned the National Book Critics Circle prize earlier this year. The experimental style of the work includes unusual formats such as a long section structured like a PowerPoint presentation.

“The book is so much about how change is unexpected and always kind of shocking,” she has said in media interviews. Egan said she was inspired by Marcel Proust’s sprawling novel “Remembrance of Things Past,” which explored the passage of time.
