Festival Celebrates

Reading and Writing

San Luis Obispo, CA/7/18/06—Book lovers by the thousands will converge upon San Luis Obispo’s Mission Plaza for the 7th Annual Central Coast Book & Author Festival on Saturday, September 9th, 2006 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“No matter your age or interest, come be intrigued, entertained and enlightened. It’s a wonderful way to make downtown San Luis Obispo an extra special visit,” said Festival Chairperson and President of the Foundation for SLO County Public Libraries, Rick London.

More than 60 exhibitors are expected to be at this year’s festival, including authors, publishers, and library and writers’ organizations.

Among the activities planned this year are:

Celebrity authors speaking at the SLO Art Center Author Workshops and Panels at the SLO Art Center and SLO Historical Society Museum Author readings at the Mission Plaza Adobe Patio Free entertainment at the Mission Plaza Amphitheater Children’s games, crafts and bounce house with the SLO County YMCA Readings by favorite children’s authors Book sales and signings by a variety of authors and organizations “More than books… It’s our future” Writing Challenge Prize Drawing Win books with a Free Prize Drawing happening every 30 minutes!

Several celebrity authors will be speaking and signing books throughout the day. Scheduled to make an appearance are:

Catherine Ryan Hyde (“Pay It Forward,” “Electric God”, “Walter’s Purple Heart” and “Becoming Chloe”) Robert Scheer (journalist and author of “Playing President”) Paul Farrell ( “The Millionaire Code” and “The Millionaire Meditation”) Young adult authors, Carolyn Marsden and Virginia Loh (“The Jade Dragon”), Mark London Williams (“Danger Boy”) and Cecil Castellucci (“The Queen of Cool”)

The Central Coast Book & Author Festival is a benefit for the Foundation for San Luis Obispo County Public Libraries. The $7,500 raised by the 2005 festival purchased reward books for the 2006 County-wide Children’s Summer Reading Program. The Foundation for SLO County Public Libraries seeks to raise awareness and monies to strengthen county public libraries. They believe that strong libraries help build, nourish, and support our community by providing a rich environment for learning and appreciation of knowledge.
