NEW YORK, NY/04/05/05Barbie, the doll that inspired generations of young girls, will soon appear as a diarist, penning her life events and thoughts in two books in the “Barbie Diary of the Decade” series which goes on sale this month.
Kate Klimo, vice president and publisher of Random House Children’s Books, got the idea for the diaries after seeing the success of novels about American Girl doll characters and Scholastic’s “Dear America series.” If successful, the Barbie diaries may be expanded into a larger series.
Award-winning children’s author Linda Lowery will write Barbie’s books. The diaries will cover two years of major events–“Red, White, and Blue Jeans,” set in 1976, and “Peace, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll,” in 1964.
