Wednesday, honouring the best of Canadian Christian writing. Novelists, columnists, poets and
theologians were among the nominees whose names were announced at the live online show.

The Short List included nominees in over 30 categories, such as books, articles, short stories, and blogs.
Montreal-area author, Eleanor Shepherd, hosted Wednesday’s event and is one of this year’s coordinators of The Word Awards.
“We would like to thank all of those who were willing to submit your writing and we are delighted to see
how you are stewarding the writing gifts that God has given to you,” Shepherd said in her remarks for
the show.
Submissions included unpublished work by new writers and work published in 2020 for both Christian
and mainstream audiences. Shortlisted books also ranged from indie published to co-published and
traditionally published. Articles and short pieces came from small, local publications as well as national
newspapers and magazines.
“Being shortlisted is an accomplishment in its own right,” said Les Lindquist, Treasurer for The Word
Guild. “We look forward to celebrating this exciting work from some of Canada’s talented Christian
writers.”
Winners will be announced live online at the Awards Celebration on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
The Word Awards were established to encourage the pursuit of excellence in the art, craft, practice and
