S&S Re-Positions

Online Division

For Digital Future

NEW YORK, NY/4/5/06—Simon & Schuster in late March renamed its Simon & Schuster Online Division Simon & Schuster Digital, which positions the publisher to pursue a wide range of digital initiatives.

Kate Tentler, former vice president of the Online unit, will head the re-branded division as senior vice president of digital media.

In an article on The Book Standard’s web site, Tentler said, “We're excited about all the opportunities that the digital world will open for us. Search-and sell-technologies, the newest generation of electronic books, the unknown developments around the corner, all should be very positive developments for publishing.”

Tentler and her team will develop a digital archive and rights management system, as well as continue to oversee the publisher’s website and online bookstore.

S&S President and CEO Jack Romanos has told his employees that digital technology has become increasingly important to the company’s overall business strategy, which is reflected in the new name Simon & Schuster Digital.
