Slip & Fall Debuts
As First Title in Borders
New Publishing Program
ANN ARBOR, MICH/6/7/07–The first novel published by Borders under the company’s new exclusive and proprietary book publishing program hits shelves June 11. “Slip & Fall,” by Nick Santora, is a thriller that revolves around a good man who makes one very bad decision that may end up costing him, and the family he loves, their lives. It is Santora’s first novel and was selected by the Borders merchandising team to be the first of many titles that will be published by Borders and sold exclusively in its over 1,000 Borders and Waldenbooks stores nationwide.
“Nick is a talented screenwriter and executive producer of the Fox television series ‘Prison Break,’” said Bill Nasshan, Borders Group’s senior vice president of adult trade books. “We discovered Nick as a novelist when we began to partner directly with talent and literary agencies to review manuscripts and screenplays that could be published as books under our new exclusive and proprietary publishing program, an ongoing effort that will differentiate us and give customers access to compelling titles they won’t find elsewhere,” he said. Other titles planned under this initiative include an upcoming John Legend tour book and a 50th anniversary GRAMMY book.
To give customers an early glimpse of the exciting new Santora title online, Borders has posted at www.bordersmedia.com/nicksantora a video featuring Santora talking about the book and his journey to becoming a writer. In addition, Borders has also posted on the site a preview of the first chapter of the book and gives customers the opportunity to reserve copies of “Slip & Fall” to pick up as soon as it hits Borders and Waldenbooks shelves June 11.
“By publishing ‘Slip & Fall’, Borders marks the launch of a new concept for our company that will differentiate us from other retailers and build customer loyalty,” said Borders Group Chief Executive Officer George Jones. “We are now working directly with the major talent and literary agencies to discover and publish books by celebrities, screenwriters and authors; titles that will only be available in our Borders and Waldenbooks stores. It is an exciting initiative and we are pleased to kick it off with Nick Santora’s first novel.”
In addition to “Prison Break,” Santora has written for several other television series including “The Sopranos,” “Law & Order” and “The Guardian,” as well as multiple feature films. A born-and-bred New Yorker, Santora graduated from Columbia Law School in 1996 and practiced law full time in Manhattan until 2001. He then moved to Los Angeles with his family to pursue a career as a professional writer. His first screenplay won “Best Screenplay of the Competition” at the 2001 New York International Independent Film Festival.
“I am proud and excited that Borders is publishing my first novel,” said Santora. “I’ve used my experience in writing for television to craft a suspenseful story that I hope resonates with many readers. The importance of my own family is reflected in the main character of the book and the vital role his family plays in the storyline. It’s exciting to have my book in the stores of such a respected and well-loved retailer like Borders.”
To launch the book, Borders will host Santora as he reads and signs copies of “Slip & Fall” at stores across the country.
