Signs Two New

Doctorow Books

NEW YORK, NY/04/27/2005—E. L. Doctorow, the author of some of the most renowned novels of our time—among them RAGTIME, THE BOOK OF DANIEL, and BILLY BATHGATE—will continue his almost thirty-five year association with his publisher Random House, who has acquired his next two books for hardcover and paperback publication in the U.S. and Canada. Doctorow’s highly anticipated novel of the Civil War, THE MARCH, will be   published by the Random House imprint this September.

In announcing the acquisition, Gina Centrello, President and Publisher of the Random House Publishing Group division, said “Edgar Doctorow is one of the foremost authors in the long literary history of Random House.  Those of us privileged to be among the early readers of THE MARCH believe it may be his finest work yet, and we can’t wait to share it with the large readership it deserves.”

The first book under the new arrangement, a collection of the author’s essays, will be published in hardcover in Fall ’06, concurrent with the Random House trade paperback publication of THE MARCH.  The second book will be a novel.

Random House Executive Vice President and Executive Editorial Director Kate Medina acquired the North American hardcover/ softcover rights from Doctorow’s literary agent Amanda Urban at ICM.  “There are few American writers of the stature of E. L. Doctorow,” said Medina. “His books have given so much literary pleasure to so many people.  We are so pleased to be continuing our longstanding relationship with him.”

The Random House Publishing Group is a division of Random House, Inc., the U.S. division of Random House, whose parent company is Bertelsmann AG.
