Although Allen Press is best known for its long history with scholarly journals, the company has also consistently earned recognition– and awards– for its excellent printing capabilities outside of the scholarly realm. In this year’s prestigious Gold Ink and Premier Print award competitions, Allen Press won equal numbers of awards for scholarly/trade publications as it did for other publications.
In the Gold Ink Awards, Allen Press won three Silver awards in the Directories, Trade Magazine, and Scientific & Trade Journals categories. The award-winning publications were the 2015 3×3 Illustration Directory, Creative Quarterly, No. 37, and The Mineralogical Record, Volume 45, Number 3, respectively. Hoover Digest was awarded Bronze in the Scientific & Technical Journals category, and the 2015 Ames Percherons Calendar earned a Pewter award for Calendars. Gold Ink Award submissions are judged on print quality, technical difficulty, and overall visual effect.
Three of those publications, the 2015Ames Percherons Calendar, the 2015 3×3 Illustration Directory, and The Mineralogical Record, also won Certificates of Merit in the Premier Print awards. The final Premier Print certificate was awarded to Allen Press’s newsletter FrontMatter.
“The skills and techniques that we have honed while printing detailed scientific publications are transferable to other specialized publications, such as image-rich illustration directories and mineral records, says Dean Mills, Director of Plant Operations. “Our production team enjoys the challenges of each unique publication.”
Throughout its history, Allen Press has focused on the quality of its printing and providing attentive service while adapting to changing customer needs.
Both the Gold Ink and Premier Print Awards will officially be presented on September 13 in Chicago.
