Launches Nikki Turner

Urban Fiction Imprint

NEW YORK, NY/5/3/06—One World/Ballantine, a division of Random House, has launched a new urban fiction line, called Nikki Turner Presents, named after bestselling urban fiction author Nikki Turner. New writers will have the opportunity to debut under the fledgling imprint, though only two to three books will be published each year, beginning in 2007.

One World/Ballantine senior editor Melody Guy has acquired three new Turner novels to follow the author’s bestselling A Hustler’s Wife, which has more than 100,000 copies in print. Turner has two new books due for release in the next nine months, Riding Dirty on I-95 (One World) to be released this month, and another novel to be published by MTV/Pocket’s G-Unit Books imprint.

Turner is among several African Americans to launch their own lines with major publishing houses in recent years, including Carl Weber with Kensington, and Zane at Simon & Schuster..

Ballantine Books is part of the Random House Publishing Group, which also includes Ballantine Reader’s Circle, Del Rey, Fawcett, Ivy, Modern Library, One World, Presidio Press, Random House, Random House Trade Paperbacks, and Villard.

The Random House Publishing Group was formed in 2003, uniting the two divisions formerly known as the Random House Trade Group and the Ballantine Books Group.
