Kills O.J. Simpsons
Book; What of Advance?
NEW YORK, NY/11/20/06News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch has killed the publication of O.J. Simpsons confession story, IF I DID IT, HERES HOW IT HAPPENED, due for release November 30 from Judith Regans Regan Books, an imprint of HarperCollins. Many booksellers were refusing to order the book due to a massive public outcry. The publisher has not yet commented on whether O.J. will have to pay back his huge advance.
The book was to show how Simpson might have gone about murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. O.J. was acquitted in the criminal trial but convicted of the murders in a civil suit. Many have no doubt that he is guilty of murder. The books release was also to be timed with a two-part Fox television interview with Simpson November 27 and 29, which has also been cancelled.
Murdoch said in a public statement that: I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project. We are sorry for any pain this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.
Until the book was cancelled, Barnes & Noble and Borders had said they would carry the book and let the public decide whether to purchase it, but most booksellers said they would not sell the title.
