As iPhone Apps
NEW YORK, NY/9/24/08–Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is among the first U.S. publishers to offer its book titles in iPhone format in the Apple App Store. The publisher has added four of its reference titles to the store, with a wide price range. The new titles include The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, priced at $29.99, and Wall Street Words at $8.99.
The American Heritage Dictionary is 2074 pages long and weighs about 7.5 pounds in print format. The new iPhone version is the first major dictionary to be presented on a handheld device. Houghton plans to offer dozens of other reference-type titles in the iPhone format. Its Desk Dictionary, already in the Apps Store, is among Apple’s bestselling titles for August.
Applications designed for iPhone are nothing short of amazing. They leverage the groundbreaking technology in iPhone like the Multi-Touch interface, the accelerometer, GPS, real-time 3D graphics, and 3D positional audio. Currently there are more than 000 applications ready to download now from a variety of content providers.
