Harcourt's San Diego
Offices to Shut Down
As Part of HMH Merger

SAN DIEGO, CA/1/5/08–Harcourt's San Diego-based trade division will shut down June 30, according to a recent report in PW. The move is part of the integration of Harcourt's U.S. education group and its trade divisions into to newly merged Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company. Houghton Mifflin purchased Harcourt's education and trade divisions in December 2007 and renamed the company, with Gary Gentel as president of the trade group.

The San Diego office employed about 65 people, and the office closing was an expected part of the consolidation. While Gentel heads the trade division, Betsy Groban will oversee the newly-merged HMH children's group.

Harcourt president Dan Farley and children's group publisher Lori Benton are leaving the company at the end of this month.
