Education Secretary to Keynote AAP Annual Meeting
WASHINGTON,DC/Authorlink News/02/11/10–Arne Duncan, the Obama Administration's popular Secretary of Education, will be the keynote luncheon speaker at the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Association of American Publishers (AAP) in Washington on March 3. Secretary Duncan's appearance is particularly relevant since this year for the first time the AAP Annual Meeting is being held in coordination with the Annual Meeting of the AAP School Division, giving attendees at both events the opportunity to hear him.
As the architect of the $4 billion Race to the Top federal education grant program to the states, as well as the moving force behind $10 billion in competitive grant programs for education in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the $650 million Investing in Innovation Fund, Mr. Duncan is shaping up as one of the most influential Secretaries in the history of the U.S. Department of Education. Secretary Duncan will be introduced by AAP Chairman Will Ethridge (Pearson Education North America), whose opening remarks will focus on "Nurturing an Educated Workforce to Support a Global Economy."
The meetings will be held at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. The day begins early, with morning meetings of the School Division, to be followed by a joint luncheon. The AAP General Annual Meeting will be held in the afternoon, followed by an early reception.
