BBC Audiobooks Rumored for Sale
NEW YORK, NY/09/02/09–The commercial arm of the BBC is seeking to sell a majority share of UK-based BBC Audiobooks, according to Publishers Weekly. The BBC Audiobooks America and a large print division are apparently also is included in the offer, which is expected to go to an existing audio company.
The BBC has been refocusing on its core operations during the economic downturn.
BBC Audiobooks is the result of a 2001 merger of BBC Radio Collection, Cover to Cover and Chivers Press and Chivers North America. The division, based in Rhode Island, has an inventory of 3,000 audiobok titles.
A sale is not expected to be completed until early 2010.
