Authors’ Visits
With School Kids
To Promote Reading

NEW YORK, NY/6/20/06—The Association of American Publishers and the Children’s Book Council have established a new program to give New York City public school children the opportunity to meet face to face with authors. Under the banner of the Adopt-A-School program, authors will personally visit various schools during Children’s book Week, November 13-19.

The effort, designed to encourage children to read, will involve more than 50 schools, according to Barbara Stripling, director of library services for the New York City School Library System. Sponsors hope that authors will help inspire kids to be readers and writers.
