To Abolish Fiction
From Regular Issues
BOSTON, MA/04/09/05—Atlantic Monthly has announced it will cease to publish short fiction in its regular monthly magazine. The 150-year-old publication, one of the few in America that continued to run fictional stories, said the move would create more space for reporting on world events.
Editors, said, however, that they will produce a special fiction issue annually in the month of August. Subscribers will have access to the fiction issue online and others can buy the publication on newsstands. Fiction editor C.Michael Curtis said the magazine plans to publish as many pieces of fiction in the special fiction issue as it had done in the past throughout a full year.
The magazine follows many others that have ceased publishing fiction in recent years.
