Doris Booth, CEO Authorlink

Doris Booth is the editor-in-Chief of Authorlink®. the award-winning online web magazine that helps connect editors, agents, writers, readers and producers. Authorlink attracts thousands of book and movie lovers a month and has more than 20,000 social media friends and followers.

Her literary agency, a separate unit from the magazine, represents a small group of bestselling authors both domestically and internationally. Two book projects in which she has been involved became Netflix documentary series. She has been involved in book sales to HarperCollins, St. Martin’s Press, Simon & Schuster, Random House, Macmillan, Barnes & Noble, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, Mirror Books in the UK, Audible, Tantor Media and others. She has worked as a co-agent with industry icons such as the late Peter Miller and with agents at CAA Doris keeps a low industry profile but is probably best known as the past publisher and current agent for TED BUNDY, CONVERSATIONS WITH A KILLER, on which the recent hit NETFLIX docuseries is based. She is no longer accepting new agency clients, but the magazine, authorlink.com, offers several services for writers.

Doris has lectured for many writing organizations, including the Whidbey Island MFA Writing Program, the Independent Book Publishers Association, and she served on the faculty of the Southwest Writers Conference in its heyday. More recently, she served on a panel of judges for the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA).

Doris founded the magazine website more than twenty years ago, after heading her own advertising and marketing agency. The company created projects for Fortune 1000 companies, including high-tech organizations such as DacEasy, and SAP America Software Solutions.

Doris has long been on the leading edge of technology and her website was among the first to embrace print-on-demand as customer number eleven at Ingram’s Lightning Source. Authorlink® web services have developed more than 200 self-published e-books for authors. While do-it-yourself conversion tools like Amazon’s KDP platform now abound in the marketplace, Authorlink® still offers e-book conversion services, especially for more complex projects unsuited for automatized systems.

Earlier

Doris Booth began her communications career as a newspaper editor and journalist. She was the youngest editor in the State of Texas, managing a subsidiary newspaper acquired by Capital Cities (which later bought ABC). While at the newspaper she earned the Texas Press Association Top Ten Texas Journalists award for three consecutive years, and the Association for Women in Communications’ Theta Sigma Phi Matrix Award for outstanding journalism, among other citations. From there, she briefly worked as a copywriter for the ad agency which launched D Magazine of Dallas. Later she served as public relations coordinator for the then Chairman of the U.S. House Ethics Committee and the House Science and Technology Committee while starting her own ad agency. There her team garnered a lengthy list of awards, including the International Television Association Golden Reel of Merit (now the Media Communications Association, International), International Film TV Festival Bronze and Merit Awards, and the Chicago Film Festival Intercom Award.

On a personal note:

My favorite color is red. I love smooth Jazz, Jazzercise class and being around creative people, especially those who laugh a lot.  I hate fish (any kind), and arrogant people. That’s why in all these years I have been reluctant to toot my own horn; it seems arrogant. But apparently, these days if you don’t toot nobody will give a hoot.

Admittedly, I am somewhat reclusive, so I enjoy spending quiet time in the East Texas piney woods with my husband and dog, Diana (as in Princess). Because I come from the Lone Star State, that does not mean that I am rabid right or rabid left or rabid anything, except maybe about books and movies. I believe communication must have a purpose, something meaningful to convey, as opposed to pure noise.

Getting readers and producers to notice good writers is the ultimate challenge. Authorlink® is passionate about helping writers believe in themselves and continue striving to fulfill their dreams.
