Washington, DC/01/05/06—Tina Jordan, long familiar to U.S. publishers in her role as Director of Public Relations and Special Events for BookExpo America, will join the Association of American Publishers as Vice President on January 17. Ms. Jordan, who will be headquartered in the AAP New York office, replaces Kathryn Blough who is leaving at the end of this week to pursue the long-held dream of a teaching career. “Our delight at having Tina join us somewhat tempers our sadness in saying goodbye to Katie,” AAP President Pat Schroeder said today in announcing the appointment.

Ms. Jordan, who has been a key member of the BookExpo America management team since 1997, the first year the event was wholly managed by Reed after the event’s acquisition from the American Booksellers Association, has been Special Events and Public Relations Director for BEA since 2000. Working closely with ABA and AAP, the event’s co-sponsors, she has been instrumental in strategic planning and in developing the special programming and author-related events that have turned BookExpo America into the English-speaking world’s premier book event.

A native of Connecticut and a graduate of Cornell University, Ms. Jordan held corporate communications positions at the Proskauer Rose, and Cleary Gottlieb law firms, the National Basketball Association, and Ogilvy & Mather, before joining BEA.

“Tina has earned the admiration, respect, and friendship of people throughout the book industry during her tenure at BEA, and that gives her, and us, an enormous advantage as she takes on her new responsibilities,” Pat Schroeder said. Among those responsibilities are the activities of the Trade Executive Committee, the Smaller and Independent Publishers Group, the Get Caught Reading campaign, AAP’s industry statistics program, and the Association’s educational programs.

The Association of American Publishers is the national trade organization of the US book publishing industry. AAP’s members include most of the major commercial book publishers in the United States, as well as smaller and non-profit publishers, university presses, and scholarly societies. AAP members publish hardcover and paperback books in every field, educational materials for the elementary, secondary, postsecondary, and professional markets, computer software, and electronic products and services.
