Cuts Three Jobs

NEW YORK, NY/2/20/2008–Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing has reorganized the division into three units, and has cut three staff positions, according to Rick Richter, president of Children’s Publishing.

S&S Books for Young Readers, Atheneum Books for Young Readers and Margaret K. McElderry Books will now be in the Trade Group. Aladdin and Pulse imprints will be in a new group, and the third unit will handle media tie-ins and novelty items.

Ruben Pfeffer, senior vice president and publisher of children’s trade, will continue to manage the Trade Group. Justin Chanda has been promoted to vice president and publisher of S&S Books for Young Readers, within the Trade Group. Emma Dryden now serves as vice president and publisher of Atheneum and Margaret K. McElderry. Valerie Garfield will continue to oversee, the media tie-in branch, which includes Little Simon, Simon Spotlight, Little Simon Inspirations and Simon Scribbles. Heading the new Aladdin and Pulse division will be Bethany Buck, formerly vice president and associate publisher of Simon Pulse. Her title will be vice president and publisher of the newly merged Aladdin/Pulse unit.

Stephanie Voros, director of subsidiary rights at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, will join the company on March 10 as vice president of subsidiary rights.

Under the new structure, each unit will be overseen by a deputy or associate publisher.

Leaving the company will be Dee Anne Grande, with Little Simon Inspirations; Susan Burke at Atheneum, and Renne Fountain, in subsidiary rights.
