Carolyn K. Reidy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Simon & Schuster, made this announcement today in a letter to her colleagues.

“Dear colleagues,
At Tuesday’s Town Hall meetings I had the opportunity to review with our New York staff Simon & Schuster’s 2017 publishing activity, both year to date and still to come, and remarked that given our stellar list of books and our tremendous work in publishing them, we should all feel proud to be part of Simon & Schuster. That pride is now borne out by news of our extraordinary performance on the New York Times bestseller list for October 8, in which our titles have claimed a truly remarkable eight #1 spots.
While there are no formal records, this is the first time in my memory that a single publishing company has owned every #1 position in these major categories during a single week. Without further ado, our list of chart-toppers:

#1 Hardcover Fiction: THE CUBAN AFFAIR by Nelson DeMille (S&S)
#1 Hardcover Nonfiction: WHAT HAPPENED by Hillary Clinton (S&S)
#1 Combined Print and E-Book Fiction: THE CUBAN AFFAIR (S&S)
#1 Combined Print and E-Book Nonfiction: WHAT HAPPENED (S&S)
#1 Paperback Trade Fiction: IT by Stephen King (Scribner)
#1 Paperback Nonfiction: THE GLASS CASTLE by Jeannette Walls (Scribner)
#1 Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous: THE TB12 METHOD by Tom Brady (S&S)
#1 Business: GRIT by Angela Duckworth (Scribner)

But the extent of our bestselling success this week goes well beyond #1 rankings: we have an additional thirteen titles on the various adult lists, with representation from every one of our publishing groups, four children’s bestsellers, and Rupi Kaur’s MILK AND HONEY from our distribution client Andrews McMeel.

What a testament to the breadth and depth of our publishing, and to the effort and skill we bring to it! On behalf of all our publishers I offer our thanks for your contributions to this landmark accomplishment, and all you do every day to make Simon & Schuster the truly great publishing company in which we take such well-earned pride.”
