September 1-15, 2005 Edition BOOK DEALS Former HP CEO

To Publish Book

With Portfolio NEW YORK, NY/8/23/05—The Portfolio imprint at Penguin Group (USA) Inc. has acquired a major new book by Carly Fiorina, the former Chairman and CEO of Hewlett-Packard. The book, currently untitled, will combine Ms. Fiorina’s memoirs of her career with her views on many different issues, including what makes a leader; how women can thrive in business; and how technology will continue to reshape our world.

From history major to secretary to law school drop-out to CEO of a global technology giant, Ms. Fiorina has experienced a remarkable rise to the very top of corporate America. She has been at the center of some of the most widely-publicized business deals of the last decade, including Lucent’s spin-off from AT&T and the controversial merger of Hewlett-Packard and Compaq. She has been the subject of intense media reporting and speculation all over the world. Now, for the first time, she will tell her own story in her own words.

“Without question, Carly Fiorina has had one of the most fascinating and controversial careers in American business,” said Adrian Zackheim, Founder and Publisher of Portfolio. “I have admired her accomplishments for many years, and hoped that one day I might publish her book. I could not be more delighted. This is the first time that readers will be able to meet the real Carly Fiorina—how she thinks, what she believes, what she’s experienced, and what she’s learned.”

World rights were bought by Mr. Zackheim from Robert B. Barnett of Williams & Connolly, representing Ms. Fiorina. Portfolio plans to publish in the Fall of 2006.
