Penguin’s Sentinel
To Release Former
HP CEO’s Memoir

NEW YORK, NY/9/13/2006—Penguin’s Sentinel imprint has scheduled an October release of Tough Choices, the memoir of former Hewlett-Packard Chairman and CEO Carleton S. (Carly) Fiorina, amid growing controversy surrounding the computer company.

HP has recently been embroiled in accusations of corporate corruption, which may heighten public interest in Fiorina’s insider views of the scandal. As a result of broad news coverage in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and USA Today, Penguin is contemplating a larger print run than its initial 150,000 copies. The book will hit bookstore shelves on October 8 and Fiorina will appear that same day on 60 Minutes.

Fiorina stepped down as HP CEO in February 2005 after six years at the helm, saying that she regretted “the board and I have differences about how to execute HP’s strategy . . .“

So far, Fiorina has kept silent about what exactly happened that made her step down. But the book promises to shed some light on the subject. Another board member, Thomas J. Perkins, quit in May, fueling questions about company operations.
