NEW YORK, NY/03/02/04—HarperCollins has named Carl Lennertz to the newly created post of vice president of independent retailing, where he will manage the publisher’s relationships with independent bookstores. Lennertz formerly served as the senior marketing consultant for the American Booksellers Association’s BookSense program. He founded Booksense while working with ABA. At HarperCollins, he will continue to work with the ABA, support the publisher’s regional trade show efforts, and oversee a team of telephone sales representatives.

According to Josh Marwell, president of HarperCollins sales, Lennertz will help the company serve independent customers, and will play a key role on the company’s sales team.

Lennertz is also the author of a debut book, Cursed by a Happy Childhood: Tales of Growing Up, Then and Now (Harmony Books, May 2004).
