Chief As President
LOS ANGELES, CA/12/21/03Donald De Line will become president of Paramount Pictures, effective January 5. The appointment gives new hope to the struggling Viacom-owned studio, which has ranked seventh in box office shares amount the major studios.
De Line, a former Disney production chief, has been a producer at Paramount for five years, developing the top-grossing movie, The Italian Job for Paramount this past year.
He succeeds John Goldwyn as vice chairman of the Motion Picture Group and president Paramount Pictures, and will report to Sherry Lansing, chairman of the studio.
De Line will oversee acquisition of literary properties, development, budgeting and production of all of the companys forthcoming properties.
Before joining Paramount, De Line served as president of Disneys Touchstone Pictures.AWARDS National Endowment

42 Literature Fellows
12/16/03The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded 42 literature fellowships for fiction and nonfiction writers for 2004. The awards total $840,000.
The recipients, who each will receive $20,000, were selected from a record-breaking 1422 applicants.
Literature Fellowships are the Arts Endowment’s most direct investment in American creativity, encouraging the production of new work and allowing writers the time and means to write.PEOPLE
Lynton Named Chairman of Sony Entertainment
12/12/03Michael Lynton has been named chairman of Son Pictures Entertainment. He headed the Penguin Publishing Group from 1996 to 1999, and previously managed Disney Publishing and Hollywood Pictures. His most recent post was as chief executive of AOL Europe.
Yaged Named VP at Miramax
12/18/03Jon Yaged has been named vice president of business and legal affairs at Miramax Books. He will be charged with developing new growth strategies for the division and with negotiating corporate acquisitions.
