BBC Audiobooks
America Launches
Inaugural Trade List

NEW YORK, NY/4/10/07–BBC AUDIOBOOKS AMERICA has announced that it is launching a retail audiobook publishing program, which expands the company’s already successful institutional audio publishing operation in the U.S.

The BBC Audiobooks America trade program will have two imprints, BBC Audio and BBC Radio.

The BBC Audio imprint features contemporary bestsellers. Titles will include mysteries, literary fiction, women’s fiction, thrillers, and narrative nonfiction. Authors range from established masters such as Alex Haley and Henry Adams to contemporary bestsellers such as Stephen Frey, Dave Eggers, and Anne Perry. This May, BBC Audio presents the monumental Pulitzer Prize-winning saga, ROOTS, for the first time on commercial audio, marking the 30th Anniversary of the iconic bestseller.

The BBC Radio imprint features dramatized recordings originally produced for broadcast, mostly on the UK’s BBC Radio 4. Impeccably produced, they are the world standard in full-cast spoken word performance. In addition to THE COMPLETE CONAN DOYLE SHERLOCK HOLMES, BBC Radio presents the Tony Award-winning play, THE HISTORY BOYS, read by the full National Theatre cast, including Richard Griffiths, Clive Merrison and Frances de la Tour.

In conjunction with the launch of the retail audiobook publishing program, BBC Audiobooks America announced that it has reached an agreement with Perseus Distribution to bring the new audiobook line to the North American commercial marketplace.

”We are very excited to finally bring our exceptional products directly to the retail marketplace,” said Jim Brannigan, President and Publisher of BBC Audiobooks America, “and we are extremely pleased to have Perseus Distribution on our team. We believe that Perseus Distribution will quickly establish us in the marketplace and will be the ideal partner for our company and our releases.”

“BBC Audiobooks America has an incredible inaugural list,” said Sabrina Bracco, Vice President, Client Services of Perseus Distribution, “We are delighted to be chosen as the North American distributor.”

The first BBC Audio title, Mohsin Hamid’s THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST, lands in stores April 2007. The following titles and more will be available in Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon, and other commercial outlets, from May on. Website: www.bbcaudiobooksamerica.com
