New York, NY/07/19/05—Alfred Lowman, a New York literary agent for 20 years, died July 10 at age 57, after a battle with emphysema.

He opened Authors and Artists Group in New York City in 1970 and represented many celebrities over the course of his career. Among his clients were super model Cristina Ferrare, wife of auto maker John DeLorean, Marianne Williamson, Joan Lunden and folk legends Peter, Paul and Mary.

Lowman, the son of an Exxon executive, moved to many places during his childhood, but spent most of his youthful years in Virginia Beach. He majored in French at the University of Virginia and later earned his master’s degree in business.

He had lived in Santa Barbara, CA for the past two years, where he relocated in an effort to improve his health.
