Elizabeth Law Named
Publisher of Egmont’s
New USA Division
NEW YORK/NY/11/27/07–Elizabeth Law, formerly vice president and associate publisher of Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, has been named vice president and publisher of the new Egmont USA, children’s publisher owned by UK publishing giant Egmont Group. Law will be on board January 2, 2008 to launch the new Egmont USA unit, which will focus on middle grade and young adult novels.
Ms. Law has already begun assembling a staff, meeting with agents, and reading manuscripts. She plans to release the first US titles in Fall 2009, including both new authors and “old favorites.” Law has worked with a number of bestselling authors.
Egmont, one of the largest children’s publishers in the UK sells approximately 16 million books and 11.5 million magazines. Douglas Pocock is executive vice president of Egmont USA.
Egmont UK’s diverse catalogue caters for children of all ages, features popular licensed characters such as Winnie-the-Pooh and Thomas the Tank Engine, an impressive picture book list with stars such as Helen Oxenbury and Colin and Jacqui Hawkins, as well as an award-winning fiction list with authors such as Jamila Gavin, William Nicholson, Michael Morpurgo and Anne Fine. Egmont is also the UK publisher of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, which has sold over 2 million copies in the UK alone.
