Closer to Publishers

NEW YORK /12/7/06—Two announcements this week signal a growing focus by the publishing trade upon the digital world.

BookExpo America is expanding its podcasting and video streaming content to create a year-round international publishing community that extends beyond the traditional three days of the show. Among its recent offerings is podcast coverage of the invitation-only gala ceremony at the 57th National Book Awards held this November 15, 2006 in New York City. Visitors to the BEA site can now listen to the announcements of the winners and hear the honorees acceptance speeches at www.bookexpocast.com.

O’Reilly Media this week announced it will hold a “Tools of Change of Publishing” conference June 18-20 in California. The meeting, which organizers hope will become an annual affair, will be held in the San Jose Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA. The event is billed as a how-to conference and trade show about the future of information exchange. The goal of the conference is to help publishers find profitable business models in the technology arena.
