IBPA Publishing University 2015, the Independent Book Publishers Association’s annual educational and networking event for independent publishers and self-published authors, will be held at the Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capitol in Austin on April 10-11, 2015. Organizers say that the selection of Austin to host the IBPA Publishing University is recognition of the growing strength and influence of Austin’s literary scene.

“Austin is a thriving literary community, which means that Publishing University attendees will have the opportunity to make important professional contacts that will be beneficial throughout their careers,” said Angela Bole, Executive Director of the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA).

Deltina Hay, an Austin-based independent publisher, author, and IBPA Board Chair, said that the creative energy throughout the larger Austin arts scene is starting to express itself through independent publishing.

“Austin has long been a place for indie filmmakers and musicians to express themselves. And in the past decade, Austin has become a place for independent publishers and authors as well. With SXSW Interactive now featuring publishing panels, and the now-famous Texas Book Festival accepting quality self-published books, Austin is making a mark on the independent book publishing scene,” said Hay.

The premier annual event for independent publishers and self-published authors, the IBPA Publishing University offers multiple opportunities for professional education in independent publishing, including sessions on book marketing, book design, ebook technology, and more. IBPA Publishing University 2015 will feature educational sessions, experiential learning labs, keynote addresses by publishing leaders, networking events, and a gala ceremony for the 2015 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Book Awards.

“For 27 years, Publishing University has drawn expert instructors working at the top of their publishing game. Their collective expertise challenges attendees to make the most of their publishing programs. In 2015, we’re excited to host nearly 30 breakout sessions along with some outstanding keynote addresses. I’m confident the sense of camaraderie will be high as we work as a community to help each other achieve and succeed,” said Bole.

Registration for Publishing University is $375 for IBPA members and $475 for nonmembers (and comes with a free one-year IBPA membership). Participants who register before December 15, 2014, will receive a 15 percent discount on registration fees. Participants can also register for single-day sessions at reduced rates.
