“. . . a taut no-holds-barred psychological thriller . . .”

Detective Inspector Zoe Dolan and her team are faced with a cop’s nightmare. A serial rapist they call The Creeper is on the loose, and his violent attacks on women are escalating in viciousness. He targets beautiful independent women in their mid-twenties. He attacks them in their homes when they think they’re safe and secure. It’s only a matter of time before the man kills – and time is running out. Stymied on all lines of inquiry, pressured by her superior and the media, Dolan needs a breakthrough.

It comes in the unlikely form of Jane Webster, a volunteer with a local telephone helpline. Used to taking calls from cranks and sexual perverts, she gets a confessional call which sounds horribly authentic. When Jane breaks the helpline confidentiality rules and tells Dolan, the detective realizes the information is just what she needs to crack the case. But nothing is as it seems. She finds herself having to deal with echoes of her past which she long hoped were dead and buried. Jane needs to find the courage to accept the consequences of her public-spirited act, too. And just when Dolan thinks the case is solved, an unexpected twist puts her and others in mortal danger.

In The Nightmare Place, Steve Mosby has created a taut no-holds-barred psychological thriller which twists and turns in plausible and shocking ways. Zoe Dolan and Jane Webster are believable characters with flaws and virtues who’ll have readers cheering them on to the end. Recommended for all who like good crime fiction.
