“. . .one of the most devious and complex plots ever devised.”

Gretel (yes, that Gretel) of Gesternstadt has grown up to become Bavaria’s foremost private detective, with a predilection for fine food, drink and cutting-edge fashion. A desire to see the sights of Nuremberg coincides with altogether too much attention from the local law, and her gluttonous brother Hans’s desire to take part in the city’s annual sausage fest. When Albrecht Dürer the Much Much Younger of Nuremberg hires her to find a series of missing prints created by his forebear, Gretel seizes the chance to leave town. She could use the generous fee offered; and after all, how hard can it be to track down a bunch of stolen artwork?

Hans’s over-gregarious old school friend, talking rodents, and the puzzled interest of the dashing general she’s set her heart on, conspire to confound Gretel at every turn. With the law breathing down her neck, Gretel struggles to find the thief. Clues are uncovered and a suspect pinned in her sights – but fate deals Gretel a strange hand. Can she solve the Case of the Missing Frog Prints without loss of her precious liberty and dignity?

P. J. Brackston delivers a elegant romp through the complicated life of a fairytale character after the fairytale is over. Gretel of Gesternstadt is a wonderful, well-rounded personality who has you rooting for her all the way through one of the most devious and complex plots ever devised.
