“an excellent read for children . . . and for all lovers of Greek art and culture.”

You can’t find a more charming tour guide than KeeKee, a inquisitive calico cat who loves to travel the world. In KeeKee’s Big Adventures in Athens, Greece preschoolers and early readers are invited to take a trip to the birthplace of western civilization. KeeKee’s friends Manolis the monkey and Evi the owl give KeeKee a grand tour of Athen’s most renown sites which include the Parthenon, the Agora, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. They run in the Olympic stadium and enjoy dining in Plaka on moussaka and tzatziki. A quick hot air balloon jaunt takes KeeKee and friends over the beautiful island of Santorini, once thought to be the home of the lost city of Atlantis.

The simple yet vividly colorful illustrations in Big Adventures are its best draw. Artist Casey Uhelski’s style captures the best of happy, big-eyed anime-like animal characters along with a strong rendering of actual Greek locales. And just because it’s aimed at children doesn’t mean author Shannon Jones stops short on the details, either. Common Greek phrases and words are shared in the narrative to make for a fun and educational storybook.

KeeKee’s Big Adventures in Athens, Greece would make an excellent read for children or grandchildren who are traveling abroad to Greece and for all lovers of Greek art and culture. Opa!
