Reviews/Book News:

Gary Hagger_Chronicles of Revenge - The Beginning_revised COVERChronicles of Revenge is a fictional autobiography based around the character of Captain Matt North.

North is a natural killer and leader; the best the UK has seen in or out of the military. He has the senses of a wild animal and extraordinary skills with just about any weapon. His other unusual skills include accelerated healing abilities due to a regenerating injection for Zartanium poisoning after an attempt on his life at a young age, and a one hundred percent photographic memory, plus the ability to move without any sound, which for a man of his height and build is amazing, and years of military training.

North’s two sons were kidnapped and murdered at the orders of three international government officials when he refused to take on an assassination assignment from them. After five years and a worldwide manhunt, North returns to exact his revenge upon these politicians. Matt tracks and kills the offspring of the politicians, before once again disappearing. Now they will feel his pain.

Little did they realise what they had unleashed upon themselves, but they would know soon enough.

This captivating novel takes the reader through the first half of Matt’s strange and violent life, from the first attempt on his young life when he was less than two days old, to the brutal bare knuckle fight with a top prize fighter while still only fifteen years old.

The novel starts with Matt killing four young people before disappearing for another four years, until he arranges for Sue Young to write his life story. They travel on and around the Chao Phraya River and its tributaries near Bangkok.
On their journey he tells her about his Grandfather Hines and Granddad George, both titans of their time, and other family members. Like his friends, they are a strange mixture of interesting characters.

At their first camp Matt kills seven armed poachers, and later they watch as a village is raided and a young woman is raped and killed.

In a small diamond mining village North spots an old enemy of his close friend, Russian ex-special agent Urie Mickelov. The psychopathic paedophile found in the mining village killed Urie’s daughter, Sasha, in an extremely violent and sexual manner. He will die in a similar way at Urie’s hand.

Matt’s all-consuming urge for revenge leads Sue to think he may kill her, as the murder of his mother years earlier and the deaths of his sons comes to a head.

As they continue onwards Sue learns much more than she had thought she would, and her views on the way Matt lives and the unending search for the last three men who actually murdered his sons, changes her way of thinking and her values.

Throughout the journey Matt and Sue have many adventures, some comical, some deadly, and some just plain weird, like her having him sing at a karaoke bar, due to a promise to her that she could have anything she wanted that night. The novel also includes stories of the time both his grandfathers killed the two men who had badly beaten Matt as a boy, and also the lesbian rape of a woman by his Aunt Alice.

This part of the story culminates with Sue trying to meet Matt at Chalk Farm Station to tell him her secret, only to find that her brother, Giles, had betrayed her to MI5 and a trap is set. Matt just about eludes them with help from Urie and his wife, and disappears into a disused tunnel, hidden away for years in the railway tunnels. He contacts her by text and Sue heads for Delhi, India for their next meeting.
